PLOT: Clayton is joined by Soraya Larson, general manager of Ludlow House. While the presence of the Ludlow House in the LES is representative of the comprehensive gentrification of the neighborhood over the past 25+ years -- a gentrification effort that Clayton has been patently outspoken against -- Clayton and Soraya engage in a discussion on the role of Ludlow House in the neighborhood now that it's there. Larson seems committed to ensuring that the Ludlow House can be used as a space that benefits the expression of artists already located in the neighborhood prior to the club's arrival.
LUDLOW HOUSE, 139 Ludlow Str, New York, NY 10014: To our neighbors, Soho House & Co. would like to take over the space at 137 Ludlow St, known as Libation Bar, next door to our current Lower East Side property, Ludlow House. We hope to use this space to construct a two-level structure occupying the ground floor and basement. On the ground floor would be an outdoor garden area covered by a retractable roof, offering an external seating area. In the basement would be a soundproofed recording studio, along with additional restrooms for Ludlow House. Both areas would stay open until 2 a.m. in accordance with Ludlow House’s current hours. We are proposing for the retractable rooftop to be closed at 10 p.m. during the week and at 11 p.m. on weekends. There would be no background music in the ground floor garden area at any time. Sincerely, Soraya Larson General Manager, Ludlow House
